Polyvinyl Butyral Phosphorylating Primer (2K)
Description
Polyvinyl Butyral Phosphorylating Primer (2-component) is formulated by dissolving polyvinyl butyral resin in alcohol solvents and grinding it with anti-corrosion pigments. It is used in combination with a separately packaged phosphating solution in a specific ratio. This paint is suitable for coating the surfaces of various ships, buoys, bridges, instruments, and other metal components and equipment.

| Application Method | 1. Surface Preparation: The substrate must be thoroughly derusted, degreased, and dried before application. Sandblasting is the preferred method for optimal surface preparation. 2. Application Conditions: The environment should be dry, as excessive humidity may cause whitening of the paint film, affecting adhesion and overall performance. The ambient temperature should be above 10°C for proper curing. 3. Application Method: This paint is a two-component system. Before use, the components must be thoroughly mixed in a 4:1 weight ratio (4 parts primer to 1 part phosphating solution). Stir the primer thoroughly. If pigment settling occurs, first pour out the upper liquid layer, mix the settled pigment with the remaining liquid, then gradually blend them back together until uniform. Transfer the mixed primer into a non-metallic container and slowly add the required amount of phosphating solution while stirring. Let the mixture stand for 15–30 minutes before application. Use within 12 hours after mixing, as prolonged standing can cause gelling, making it unusable. Coating Thickness & Dilution: Application can be done by brushing or spraying. The recommended dry film thickness is 8–12μm. Excessive thickness may reduce performance. If the paint is too viscous, do not add excess phosphating solution. Instead, dilute with a 3:1 mixture of ethanol (≥96%) and butanol. Ensure the ethanol and butanol have low water content, as excessive moisture can cause whitening and affect performance. 4. Recoating Interval: After applying the primer, wait at least 2 hours before applying additional coats, including anti-rust paints, primers, or topcoats. |
