Epoxy Ester Iron Red Primer

Description

Epoxy Ester Iron Red Primer is formulated by esterifying epoxy resin with vegetable oleic acid, then grinding the esterified product with iron oxide red, zinc yellow, and iron black pigments, along with extender pigments. Drying agents and solvents are added for final adjustment. This coating is widely used as a primer for various metals, anti-corrosion coatings for chemical equipment, and base protection for automobiles, tractors, and other machinery.

Best For

  • steel structure protection
  • industrial floor systems
  • heavy-duty anti-corrosion projects

Buyer Benefits

  • strong adhesion to prepared substrates
  • good chemical resistance
  • suitable for multi-coat protective systems

Key Features

  • The paint film is hard and durable, providing excellent adhesion to iron and aluminum.
  • When paired with a phosphating primer, it improves moisture and salt spray resistance.

Typical Coating System

Typical epoxy system: epoxy primer, optional epoxy intermediate coat, and polyurethane or fluorocarbon topcoat when exterior color and weather resistance are required.

Application Guide

Application Method 1. Surface Preparation: For steel with mill scale: Sandblast to Sa2.5 grade (or use pickling to completely remove scale and rust). For steel without mill scale: Grind with an elastic grinding wheel to St3 grade. For steel coated with shop primer: Perform secondary rust removal on damaged and rusted areas of the paint film, grinding to St3 grade. 2. Application Conditions The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C higher than the dew point. The relative humidity should not exceed 85%. 3. Coating Method Thinner: Epoxy ester thinner (for airless spraying) Epoxy thinner (for air spraying) Dilution rate: 0 - 15% Nozzle diameter: 0.4 - 0.5mm (airless spraying) 2.0 - 3.0mm (air spraying) Spraying pressure: 12 - 15 MPa (≈ 120 - 150 kg/cm²) for airless spraying 0.3 - 0.4 MPa (≈ 3 - 4 kg/cm²) for air spraying Cleaner: Epoxy thinner 4. Recommended Coating Passes Two passes, achieving a dry film thickness of 80µm. 5. Coating Interval Minimum interval: 36 hours at 5°C 24 hours at 20°C 16 hours at 30°C Maximum interval: No limit. 6. Compatible Topcoats: Various alkyd topcoats; Amino baking paints
